Abstract
Boiler tube erosion by fly ash in coal-fired power plants is the most troublesome problem, resulting in unplanned shutdowns or significant maintenance costs. In order to reduce the such erosion phenomenon, it is necessary to measure the local flow of boiler inside accurately and to relieve the high velocity at local region. In this study, the off-line cold air flow diagnostics and real-time combustion analysis methods were applied to the plant site test, in order to evaluate the local gas flow velocity quantitatively and to estimate the erosion tendency in the boiler so that derive the optimal maintenance method. As a result, the area most susceptible to wear was predicted as the economizer tube which is located near the wall of the boiler back pass and the estimated maximum erosion rate was over the 300 μm/year
